Red Delicious

This one’s a classic – Washington state apple growers have been producing Red Delicious apples since the 1920s.  Crunchy with a mildly sweet flavour, the heart-shaped fruit is bright red and sometimes striped.  Reds are perfect for enjoying fresh out of hand or in salads. 

Quick History – Red Delicious originated in Peru, Iowa and was discovered as a chance seedling on the farm of Jesse Hiatt.  The variety was originally known as Hawkeye and was introduced to market in 1874.
